What’s Happened Since Sunday
As soon as I got the successful message from Kickstarter on Sunday Morning, I reached out to the chosen illustrator, Carter Doody, who has also provided all the other character art we’ve been seeing this month, as well as the cover landscapes for Sanity Line. Carter’s role in this whole affair is to provide one fresh character illustration, which will be used as the front cover for The Rise.
What Happens Next
I’ve also recently received the draft copy for the book back from my beta readers with their notes and marginalia, and I’m going to be working all month long on turning those assorted notes into edits to the final text. I’ve also planned roughly an additional 12,000 words worth of net-new scenes which I will be drafting into the text by the end of November.
At that point, we’ll start the process of copy editing in earnest, and hopefully by the end of the year I’ll have baked in the text completely.
The Road to Finished
Once the text is finished, we can move on to the sightly more time-consuming, but none-the-less important, task of doing print and graphical layout for the book itself. As with the rest of the series, I’ll be handling these tasks myself. Fortunately, I’ve gotten something of a routine worked out over the years, and I’m quite efficient at it. For the cover though, we may very well turn to CMYKat Graphics for the actual graphical handling, since she’s even more efficient at it.
Somewhere in the middle of that process, of course, we’ll also mail out the character art postcard rewards for anyone who had backed those. I thought it was a clever idea, hopefully a few of you did as well.
This is also about the time that a marketing plan for the launch will be developed in earnest. And while I did project “April 2027” as the final launch timeline, I have every intention of not keeping you waiting quite that long; I included the extra padding to allow for all those eventualities life throws at you.
Until then… be seeing you, Agents.
Pages in the Province - Nov. 7 @ FREX
Folks who can make it to the Fredericton Exhibition Grounds (FREX) on Saturday, November 7, will have the opportunity to enjoy "Pages in the Province", a literary festival hosted by Dog Eared Books from nearby Oromocto. I'll be there from 10AM to 5PM along with over 100 vendors.
In fact, I'll be riiiiight... here!
Worldtober Master Index
If you've followed me on social media, you've no doubt seen me posting all last month about Worldtober, a worldbuilding prompt list u/Velum-Cordis created on reddit. It was originally created as an inktober prompt list, but I decided to run with it and use it to stretch the world-building on the wikis some.
I had a lot of fun doing the challenge, and even created content for some settings that had otherwise gone somewhat stagnant, especially my setting for Stellarchs of the Tarnished Skies, which I'd actually kind of forgotten about.
Anyway, a few people noticed that on all platforms the threads I was using to keep track of all the posts got broken up, so I went ahead and included them in one handy list!
